Home buyers in Noida Extension will meet Uttar Pradesh chief minister-designate Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow for the resumption of housing projects. The buyers will also meet NCR planning board officials when the board meets again on March 26. The buyers fear that with the change of guard in Lukcnow, the CEO of Noida/Greater Noida will also change and this may hit the government’s ongoing efforts in the court to solve the matter.

Members of the Noida Extension Flat Owners and Members Association (NEFOMA) on Sunday held a meeting and decided that the buyers will  themselves move the court for relief as for the last one year, they have been paying EMIs for the projects that are stuck as well as the rents of their current accommodations.

Shweta Bharti, general secretary of NEFOMA, said, “The NCR planning board has not been able to clear Greater Noida’s master plan. This means, the housing projects in Noida Extension remain halted. Apart from putting fresh pressure on the board, we will meet Akhilesh Yadav and request him to save us from this trauma.”

“When the government changes, the officials occupying high offices are changed too. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. The current officials have filed a review petition in the court, seeking early resumption of projects. In case of a major administrative shake-up, efforts may go off the track,” she said.

More than four months after an Allahabad High Court order raised hopes of revival of stuck housing projects in Noida Extension — when it ruled that the land would remain with the builders and the farmers would get increased benefits — there are no indications of a revival.

The planning board has said no deadline can be set for grant of approval to the master plan.

The authority acquired 3,000 hectares of land between 2005 and 2010 for industrial development in about a dozen villages, today known as Noida Extension. In 2008, it changed the land use to residential (group housing) and continued with acquisition.

Trouble began in 2011, when the court returned land to farmers in two villages. A larger bench of HC in October last year said that realty projects could go only after the master plan was approved by the NCR board.
